  • Will go up against Mahindra Marazzo, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and Toyota Innova Crysta.
  • Likely to be priced between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • Might get both petrol and diesel engine options.

MG Motor will soon be coming up with an 8-seater MPV that was its first product for the Indian market. It will make its debut at the Auto Expo 2020 that is slated to kick start in just a few days from now.

According to a report on Rushlane, MG Motor India is all set to display a seven/eight-seater MPV at the biennial event. The launch of this people’s mover, however, will take place at a later stage and the pricing is expected to be in Rs 12 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) region. The vehicle with a three-row seating layout will be pitted in the market as an MPV and is expected to be a more affordable alternative to the Toyota Innova Crysta. Also, not to forget, this MPV will also rub shoulders against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo in the segment.

Now coming to the powertrain and engine specifications, currently, it will be too early to comment on the same. However, looking at the market demand, it's expected to come with both petrol and diesel engine options with an automatic transmission as optional. MPVs with three-row seating and reasonable pricing are currently high in demand. The recently launched Renault Triber and the soon to be launched Kia Carnival can be seen as a direct result of the same.

Going by the SIAM data, the demand for MPVs in India has increased by over 30 percent despite the fact that the overall vehicles dipped by 15 percent in the last year. MG Motor India has plans to display as many as 15 products at the 2020 Auto Expo and this will include almost everything from hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs. Now it remains to be seen if all those products will make their way to the Indian market or not.

More details on the upcoming MPV to be out soon, so stay tuned with us for all the action!
