- MG Motor had already sold 3500 units of the Hector.
- The Halol facility had a monthly production capacity of 3000 units.
- The waiting period for the MG Hector stands at 6-7 months.
MG Motor India will start accepting orders for the Hector SUV again from October 2019 as it had earlier suspended the bookings temporarily after witnessing unprecedented demand. The company has already sold 3500 units of the SUV in a couple of months in the Indian market. The company had to stall the booking process shortly on July 18 due to an overwhelming response and excessive orders. MG dealerships registered record bookings of 28,000 units of Hector and the company was of the view that it will first focus on the delivery of orders received by ramping up the production at the Halol facility to 3000 units by October end.
MG Motor recently wheeled out the 5,000th unit of the Hector from the Halol manufacturing plant. The company has decided to re-open the bookings, keeping the festive season in mind. Though, insiders tell that the general waiting period for the SUV is expected to stay longer. The waiting period has already reached to 6-7 months for certain variants in some particular cities. It indicates that those booking the Hector in October may have to wait till the new year to get their SUV delivered. The company could also use this opportunity to increase the introductory prices of the Hector across the entire range. For those asking, MG Hector comes in a price range of Rs 12.18-16.88 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi), however, it is introductory.
MG Hector has been getting serious threats from the newest kid on the block - the Kia Seltos - which sold a commanding 6200 units in August 2019 sales even though it is the debut of this brand in the Indian market. Ther Seltos is advanced in features and aggressive in pricing but smaller in size than the Hector. What is to be seen is how MG Motor keeps the momentum going in such a dismal environment where almost every automaker is struggling.
