The MG Motor India is readying to launch its first product in the Indian market, Hector sometime soon. As the launch seems to near, the production of the SUV is set to start from April 28, 2019. The SUV will initially be available in a five-seat layout. Visually, the India-spec MG Hector resembles Bajoun 530 SUV, sold in the Chinese market. It also shares underpinnings with the Chinese-spec model.
At the front, it features a large chrome mesh grille, split headlight set-up equipped with LED units on the lower bumper and LED daytime running lights placed atop. Moving to the side, it gets diamond cut alloy wheels. Faux skid plates are also fitted in front as well as rear. The insides will be packed to the gills with connectivity and comfort bits including a six-way power adjustable driver’s seat, 360-degree camera, a Harm sourced infinity audio system, keyless entry, cruise control, and a push-start button. In addition, the connectivity set-up will also come with voice assist, pre-loaded apps among several others. Tyre pressure monitoring will also be a part of the package.
On the mechanical front, the SUV will be offered with a 1.5-litre, turbo petrol and a 2.0-litre oil burner sourced from FCA. Transmission choices will include a six-speed manual unit along with an optional six-speed dual-clutch automatic unit with the turbo-petrol engine. Additionally, there will be a 48-volt mild-hybrid variant claimed to be 12% more frugal as compared to its petrol counterpart.
The compact SUV will take on the likes of Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass among others. While the company is yet to finalize dealer partners in the country, it plans to have at least 50 dealers by June with 120 touch points. Save for Mumbai and a couple of other cities, MG Motor India is planning to have one city, one dealer set-up across the country.
