MG Motor India has finally taken the wraps off the Hector SUV in an event in Mumbai today. Being dubbed as India's first 'Internet Car', it will go on sale from next month. The bookings for the MG Hector will also start from June 1, 2019 while the production is already underway at the company's Halol manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The company has also introduced its globally acclaimed 48V mild hybrid technology in the top-end petrol variants. MG Hector SUV will take on the likes of Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta.
Talking about the exterior styling, MG Hector flaunts a star-rider front grille while the character lines flow geometrically in a horizontal manner. The company claims that the various sections of the SUV's interior are inspired from contemporary dance forms. Inside the cabin, it has the biggest touchscreen HD infotainment system in the segment at 10.4-inches with the next-gen iSMART technology. The Hector also gets 19 exclusive features for the Indian market while it has been tested for over one million kilometers before it went into series production. The dealer dispatch for the Hector will start from next week to the company's network of 120 outlets across 50 cities. MG has announced that it will expand the dealership network to 250 outlets by the end of September this year.
Mechanically, the Hector will be available in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants will be powered by the 1.5L turbocharged engine with power output of 141bhp and peak torque of 250Nm. It will be offered with both manual and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The top-end petrol variants will also feature the 48-volt mild-hybrid technology which helps in reducing petrol engine emissions by upto 12 percent and result in best-in-class fuel efficiency. There will be a 48-volt lithium ion battery which can store energy and provide extra torque of up to 20 Nm when required. The mild-hybrid technology has three key features: Engine Auto Start Stop, Regenerative Braking and E-Boost. The diesel variants will get power from a 2.0L engine with top power and peak torque at 168bhp and 350Nm, respectively.
