Morris Garages Motor India has successfully launched the MG Hector in the Indian automobile market yesterday at a price of Rs 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The British automotive manufacturer has also confirmed its second product, eZS electric SUV.
Apart from eZS, the MG Motor India is also planning to launch two more SUVs, a sub-compact and a seven-seater Hector SUV. After these SUVs’ launches, the automotive giant may launch a hatch in order to achieve greater volumes. According to The Economic Times, MG Motor has already started the groundwork on the hatchback. When asked that the company is considering a hatch, Rajeev Chaba, the Managing Director and President of MG Motor India said, “Absolutely, it is on the agenda. There have been some conversations in this regards, and it may be possible in the next three years.”
There is a possibility that MG 3 is a hatchback that will be launched in India. Manufactured in December 2010, the second-gen MG 3 has experienced facelift two times and now it is at the end of the lifecycle. Indian market will more likely get a third-gen MG 3.
The sub-compact hatchback, MG 3 will rival with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz, and Hyundai Elite i20. Till now, A-segment hatchback is not available in the MG marquee worldwide. However, the B-Segment is less competitive as well as safer entry in the brand.
If launched, the MG hatchback will be manufactured at the Halol plant, Gujarat of MG Motor India. This plant is currently producing the MG Hector.
