- MG ZS EV bookings opened near the end of December.
- Bookings were closed on Jan 17.
- First delivery was made today, to EESL.
MG Motor is seeing success with its second product, the ZS EV. It managed to achieve more than twice its targeted bookings of 1000 units, and shut down bookings on January 17 with 2800 units. The first ZS EV was delivered to EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Limited) today. EESL has purchased five MG ZSes in all.
The MG ZS EV is the second all-electric premium product to launch in the Indian marketplace, after the Hyundai Kona. It has undercut the Kona EV’s price by selling it at Rs 20.88 lakh onward, ex showroom. The first 1000 bookings will receive the ZS at a special price; it is unclear at this point if the mentioned price is the early bird special pricing or not. The ZS is being sold in five cities: Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. ZS owners are being offered free fast charging at MG dealerships for a limited period of time.
Morris Garages stated that is capable of servicing only 2400 bookings of the ZS EV, despite the booking figure of 2800 units. It had originally planned to produce only 200 units of the SUV every month. With the current number of bookings, the waiting period stretches from 6 to 9 months, which is why MG is planning to ramp up production of the ZS and produce 300-400 units every month for the next few months.
The MG ZS EV is an all-electric SUV that has a claimed range of 340 km on a full charge, and up to 80 per cent of the battery can be charged in a mere 40 minutes using the fast chargers installed at the dealerships. It is being offered in two variants, Excite and Exclusive, with a difference of around Rs 3 lakh between the two variants.
