The McLaren P1 reached sold out status about two years ago and now it has emerged that one of the 375 lucky buyers is none other than former two-time Formula 1 world champion Mika Pauli Häkkinen. The Finnish driver spent most of his career at McLaren, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that his latest purchase is the hybrid supercar which looks absolutely gorgeous in this livery.
As a matter of fact, the car’s exterior appearance seems very similar to Jenson Button’s McLaren P1 which makes the statement “great minds think alike” very accurate in this case. Both of them ordered their cars with a dark grey livery, blacked out wheels and a yellow/orange finish for the brake calipers.
Besides Häkkinen and Button, word on the street says current Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton also has a McLaren P1, but his has a different look as the talented driver asked the Woking-based car manufacturer to paint his vehicle in a striking blue combined with black for some of the body parts.
It will be interesting to see if there are any current or former Formula 1 champions with the track-only version of the supercar known as the P1 GTR. This is actually a lot more expensive than the road-going car, but nevertheless more than 40 orders have already been placed for the ultimate track car, along with the LaFerrari XX.
Speaking of the LaFerrari, the road-going version of the hybrid supercar from Maranello was recently acquired by Formula 1 veteran Felipe Massa who now drives for Williams following his long stay at Ferrari between the 2006 and 2013 seasons.
It seems F1 drivers want the latest and greatest supercars and this isn’t really a surprise taking into account at work they drive extremely quick machines and they want their road-legal automobiles to be as fast as possible.
