Just a day after Mitsubishi officially rolled out new-gen Outlander in India here is another news that can excite Mitsubishi fans. The next model from Mitsubishi’s international line-up that is set to launch in India is the five-seater SUV, Eclipse Cross. Media reports suggest, the company is already working on tailoring the SUV for the Indian market. That said, Mitsubishi is ostensibly making necessary changes in terms of features and other mandatory regulations as per the Indian reforms. If all goes as planned, the new Mitsubishi Eclispe Cross will be launched in India by 2020. Mitsubishi will slot it beneath Outlander in its India line-up to take on the likes of Jeep Compass.
While the company is already chalking out a product plan for India, Eclipse Cross, which already offers BS-VI compliant engines is a perfect option for India in the current scenario. Important bits that need to be equipped in the five-seat SUV include an OBD-II, a seat belt reminder system and a speed alert system.
Featuring a five-seat configuration, the international model of Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross houses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine which makes top power of 163 bhp along with 250 Nm torque. This unit comes paired to a CVT and is available with 2WD and 4WD drivetrain systems. As for the India-bound model, it is likely to come with a 2.2-litre oil burner that will abide by BS-VI emissions. The diesel unit on the other hand is likely to be linked to an eight-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with an additional 4WD drivetrain.
With a prime focus on safety, expect the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross to be armed to teeth. That said, the five-seat SUV will get as many as seven airbags, a collision mitigation system, rear cross traffic alert, a lane departure warning system. Just so you know, the SUV even scored an impressive five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests which testifies its strength when it comes to the safety of occupants.
