Mitsubishi Motors would launch the Pajero Sport AT with 4X2 system on November 15, 2014 in India. The company currently offers the Pajero Sport SUV with a 4X4 drive system and 5-speed manual transmission, which is priced at Rs. 23.50 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi). The Pajero Sport AT is going to feature a 5-speed automatic transmission with an expected price lower than the 4X4 manual variant.

The Pajero Sport 4X2 AT variant is expected to have no cosmetic changes at all. Mechanically, it would be in-housing the same 2.5L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged CRDI diesel motor, being sourced directly from the current 4X4 variant. The power output and torque performance is also going to be the same, i.e. 178PS and 400Nm, respectively. However, the only change would be of that of a 5-speed auto gearbox in place of the existing 5-speed manual transmission. The 5-speed auto gearbox would disburse power to the rear wheels of the SUV. Inside the cabin too, the new 4X2 AT variant would all the comfort and convenience features from the existing 4X4 variant.

Mitsubishi Pajero is world renowned SUV which has got great reception from critics too, all across the globe. But, in India, it isn't selling some large numbers due to numb dealer network and not-up-to-the-mark aftersales support. The arrival of Pajero Sport AT would open new options for the buyers as earlier due to the lone 4X4 variant, there was no choice but to go for any other SUV such as Fortuner, Endeavour or Santa Fe for automatic transmission variant. Also, the Pajero Sport 4X2 AT would be more fuel efficient than the currently sold 4X4 variant due to lower weight.
