Mitsubishi Will Introduce Pajero Sport Automatic In Next Fiscal Year

Snapshot: Mitsubishi will launch the Pajero Sport with automatic transmission around the month of April in India. The new automatic variant is supposed to get four wheel drive layout

Mitsubishi is planning to launch a new variant of its potent SUV, Pajero Sport, with automatic transmission in India. The Japanese automaker has been performing its business operations in India in a collaboration with the home-grown company, Hindustan Motors, since 1998. However, the meagre demands for the products has faded the presence of Mitsubishi in India. Presently, the company's portfolio consists of only two cars, Pajero Sport and Montero, for the Indian market. Both these cars are capable of doing good in their respective segments. But unavailability of spare parts and lack of a susbstantial after sales service network have resulted in a very few numbers of prospective buyers in the market for the brand.

The new variant of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will feature the INVECS-II (Intelligent and Innovative vehicles Electronic control System) 5-speed automatic transmission. The company has named it Intelligent as it observes the driver's driving style and adapts itself and changes the gears accordingly to provide the maximum level of comfort. Rest of the powertrain will be same as of the current model that means the 2.5-litre DI-D (Direct Injection Diesel), produces 178 PS of power at 4000 RPM and 400 Nm of torque between 2000-2500 RPM, will does duty under its hood. The comfort and safety features like airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable driver's seat, Multi-Info display on dash, door courtesy lamps and leather seats will continue to be loaded on the upcoming variant.

Interestingly, MItsubishi has been selling the Pajero Sport automatic with four-wheel drive configuration in foreign markets. In this way, the similar is likely to get introduced in the Indian market. The introduction of 4WD layout with automatic transmission will might work as an advantage for the Pajero Sport as its major competitor, Toyota Fortuner, does not come with four wheel drive layout in auto transmission. Mitsubishi will introduce the Pajero Sport automatic in next fiscal year with an expected price tag of around Rs. 25 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
