The new Audi A3 sedan will be powered by a 1.8-litre TFSI direct injection turbo-petrol motor mated to an eight-speed gearbox, this engine makes around 177bhp of power. There will also be a 2.0-litre diesel engine paired to a six-speed automatic 'box. The diesel engine makes around 143bhp.

This new Audi also is a first of sorts for Audi since it will now start using the new nomenclature. The 2-litre diesel will no longer be called the 2.0TDI but will get a 35TDI badge. This is Audi's new 'dynamic factor' nomenclature system, which the carmaker will now use to calculate the performance of a given model. The Audi A3 petrol variant is now badged as 40TFSI indicating at its higher performance figures.
