Mercedes Benz is taking the performance game to a whole new level and their latest product proves our statement. In a press release to unveil the 2018 E63, Mercedes Benz stated - "The Mercedes-AMG E63 Sedan and E63 S Sedan are the most powerful E-Class variants of all time." Mercedes a managed to pull an epic stunt with the new E63 AMG which is one of the most luxurious, technologically advanced super sedans ever created and happens to be the most powerful too.
And since a lot of emphasis is given to the power, let's start with the engine, which happens to be the Mercedes’ 4.0-liter V8 engine. The engine is equipped with a pair of turbochargers that both use twin-scroll technology to improve performance and reduce turbo lag. There are two variants available - the E63 standard and the E63 S.
The standard E63 produces 563 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque, good enough to push the sedan from 0-100 kmph in just 3.4 seconds. The more maniac one - the E63 S, has a total output of 603 hp and 850 Nm of torque. With a top speed of a little under 300 kmph, the model can do 0-100 kmph in just 3.3 seconds. Both the models are equipped with 4Matic all-wheel drive.
The AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system uses fully variable torque distribution on the front and rear axles. If needed, 100% of the power can be sent to the rear wheels when the Drift Mode is activated. The engine is mated to a nine-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission and a cylinder deactivation tech is used to improve the fuel efficiency - Cylinders two, three, five, and eight can be shut depending on throttle inputs and cruising demands.
As for the Drift Mode, a much has been said about it, since this is the first time it is making it in Mercedes sedan. When on the Race drive setting, ESP deactivated and the manual transmission mode selected, the Drift Mode is activated on the E63 S. The E63 S becomes totally rear-wheel drive in this mode and you have to switch it off manually.
The new E63 will retain the basic design of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan, but with a few additions. The AMG version will come with a serious exhaust setup out back, and the wheel arches are a little wider than on the standard car. The cabin of the AMG model is as good as it can get and gets all the goodness of the E-Class along with high-quality materials, incredible design, and the best technology available in the luxury segment right now.
The 2018 AMG E63 will officially debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November and the car will go on sale early next year in the U.S. market. Expect a lot of videos with E63 S drifting around the tracks across the world in the near future!
