Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Pol Espargaro and team owner Herve Poncharal attended an event at the Sentul Circuit in Indonesia last weekend. The 2014 Yamaha Asean Cup Race meeting featured riders from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Myanmar and India all competing on Yamaha motorcycles. MotoGP™ 2014 Rookie of the Year Espargaro attended a press conference and the opening ceremony in front of an enormous crowd of 60,000 fans.
The Spanish rider gave a speech to the crowd at the Sakura stand, the Tech3 Team’s official exhaust supplier, as well as giving out gifts to the delighted supporters. There was a large media presence and Espargaro undertook several interviews with the gathered press, whilst 2010 and 2012 MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo was also present.
“I am very pleased to have visited the Sentul circuit last weekend where I saw some great racing and met the brilliant Indonesian crowd who are so passionate about motorcycles,” said Espargaro. “It would be a dream to have a MotoGP race here in the future. It was fantastic to work with Sakura and Yamaha Indonesia this year and I was very happy to hand out gifts for them to the enthusiastic fans, plus it was great to meet them as well.”
The rider continued, “To be on live television was also extra special and for sure, I am pleased to have so many Indonesian articles written about me. It was my first time visiting the YARC event, which I enjoyed a lot and the racing was superb to watch. I also want to say ‘Terima Kasih’ to Yamaha Indonesia, Sakura and all of the Indonesian fans whose support means a lot to me!”
