MotoAmerica is adding KTM RC390 Cup Series!

Snapshot: KTM RC390 goes racing in US soon!

The origins of the astonishing KTM RC390 can be traced to the KTM's Moto 3 effort for its DNA and the KTM RC390 Cup Series for its upbringing. The RC390 only reached the showroom floors after it had proven its ability in the dedicated RC390 Cup Series in UK.

Now that KTM has decided to take the RC390 to the US market, MotoAmerica has in-turn confirmed rumours that it will be partnering with KTM to bring a KTM RC390 cup series to the reborn American road racing championship.

The RC390 Cup Series will compete at select rounds of the 2015 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM American Motorcycle Road Racing Championship Series (say that three times fast), and as the name implies, will feature young racing talents on the RC390 racing platform.

The class is still being formed, but it will be limited to riders 14 to 22-years-old, with some sort of licensing requirement as well. KTM’s long-time partner, HMC Racing, will provide trackside service to racers of the RC390 Cup, and technical and pit hospitality will also be hosted by HMC. HMC Racing rider Chirs Fillmore will also be giving the young riders racing advice, also as part of the deal.

“We are really excited for KTM to partner with MotoAmerica on this project with a clear goal to help bring youth back into American road racing,” commented Jon-Erik Burleson, President of KTM North America. “We are proud of the effort MotoAmerica is putting toward reviving road racing in this country and look forward to a season of exciting racing from our RC Cup to the premier SuperBike class.”

“One of our main goals in creating MotoAmerica was to find new talent and this is the start of that,” said three-time 500cc World Champion and KRAVE partner Wayne Rainey. “This is going to give a lot of young riders the opportunity to feel the excitement of racing at a professional event on top-level KTM RC 390 motorcycles while competing for a National Championship.”

“The KTM RC Cup is also going to give the teams a chance to see new talent in a competitive environment. Our goal is to give these riders the opportunity to move up through our championship classes in MotoAmerica with a goal of making it to the World Championships,” Rainey continued.
