MS Dhoni has taken delivery of India’s only Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. This is most interesting, because there are a ton of full-size SUVs that have supercar-rivalling acceleration available on the market, and they all have badges that would be the envy at any seven-star hotel. ‘Jeep’ isn’t one of those badges, but the Trackhawk is no less impressive because of it.
The Trackhawk is Jeep’s halo model. Based on the Grand Cherokee, it has a supercharged 6.2-litre ‘Hemi’ V8 petrol engine that makes a monstrous 707bhp and 875Nm and puts it down to all wheels. The rear has a limited-slip differential. The transmission is an updated version of the eight-speed automatic we see in other Jeep models like the Wrangler. The Trackhawk will blast its way to 100kph from a standstill in a mere 3.62 seconds.
The styling of the Trackhawk echoes the Cherokee SRT, but it gets more visual muscle as well. Look for the additional vent below the signature Jeep grille that aids cooling, the more aggressive front bumper, and the 20-inch black alloy wheels. At the back, there is a diffuser element, quad exhausts, and more blacked-out elements. If you’re not familiar with the Cherokee, don’t worry – the Trackhawk has helpful ‘6.2 Hemi’ badging on the wings and a ‘Grand Cherokee Supercharged’ set on the front doors as well.
There is no shortage of creature comforts in the Trackhawk, though – Dhoni will enjoy his favourite tunes via an 8.4-inch touchscreen that controls the infotainment system. An added bonus here is the Trackhawk-exclusive submenus that monitor performance-related parameters.
Estimating a price for Dhoni’s Trackhawk will be tricky, because there is a long list of options available to the customer from Jeep, and being a CBU, all of them are available. Don’t expect to see another one running around town, however… like we’ve said before, there are better badges available for the money, and that’s what most customers will want.
