Mumbai Traffic Police, in what seems to be a stellar effort to curb congestion, has banned heavy vehicles on the city roads during peak hours. The peak hours are referred as between '7 AM to 11 AM' and '5 PM to 10 PM'. Mumbai has always been in the headlines for superlong traffic jams and hence, it is being done to decongest the ever rising traffic jam problem. The order was issued by Sanjay Mohite, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Mumbai.

Mumbai Traffic Police, though, has exempted several vehicles from this ban such as vehicles carrying vegetables and milk, ambulance, police department, fire department, government, semi-government vehicles and all buses transporting passengers. It is being done to minimize inconvenience that could happen as a result of this order.

The official order issued by the Mumbai Traffic Police clearly states that Mumbaikars face severe jams and traffic problems in their everyday lives due to heavy vehicles. In addtion, the other sources of the problem ‌include ongoing repairs/other works on the road, ongoing metro/monorail projects and electricity/telephone line works in the city, concluded the order.
