It has been learnt through our reliable sources that Nagesh Basavanhalli, Managing Director & President, Fiat Chrysler India, has left the company. However, Fiat India hasn't officially confirmed it yet. This news comes at phase when the company is trying everything possible to improve its deteriorating sales by launching new vehicles, including high-performance Abarth cars and hard-hitting Jeep SUVs.
Nagesh was appointed the President and Managing Director of Fiat Chrysler India in April 2013. Earlier, he used to head the Fiat and Chrysler’s APAC (Asia Pacific Technical Center) located in Chennai, India. He had this major responsibility of reviving the brand's image and turning its fortunes, when he took over the role of President & Managing Director. Fiat India ain't performing any good for the past couple of years and has been struggling with its sales. The company recently launched the pseudo-crossover Avventura in the country to extend its vehicle arsenal, which currently has Linea sedan and Punto hatchback.
Fiat India's major revenues are coming from its 1.3L Multi-jet diesel motor which is sourced by two of the country's leading automajors Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors. If we talk of future, Fiat has plans to launch the Abarth 595 Competizione in January in India. It has already previewed the small supercar at the 2014 AutoCar Performance Show. The company is also looking forward to introduce the performance-oriented versions of its Punto hatchback and Avventura CUV by mid 2015. It intends to close in the 2015 by introducing its Jeep brand in the country with Wrangler and Grand Cherokee being the first two vehicles on sale.
