- Bajaj Urbanite e-scooter will be launched in late 2019
- The Urbanite marks Bajaj's comeback in the scooter segment
- Urbanite will also be introduced in a petrol-powered version
All-new Bajaj Urbanite Scooter has been spied testing around Pune for the first time. The spy shot shows a heavily camouflaged test mule prowling the streets. Bajaj Auto was expected to make a comeback in the scooter segment and the Urbanite brand can become the first model of the homegrown motorcycle manufacturer. Bajaj can also introduce a petrol version of the same but the test mule seen in the spy shots seem to be powered by an electric motor.
The Bajaj Urbanite electric scooter is expected to hit the Indian market by the end of this year. The spy shot showcases only the left profile of the test mule but one can notice that it does not have an exhaust. This confirms that the test mule here is an all-electric Urbanite scooter. Earlier this year, the company said that they want to be the Tesla in the two-wheeler segment and added that they don't want to introduce a product similar to the competitors.
Baja Auto's clear idea is to launch an out of the box and innovative electric scooter in the Indian market. The Bajaj Urbanite electric scooter will focus on range and power. The e-scooter has a LED twin-pod tail lamp and the headlamp is also expected to be a LED unit. The e-scooter also sports a unique pillion grab rail. The stepped seats are reminiscent of the Bajaj Chetak and the pillion seat seems to be heavily cushioned.
The all-new Bajaj Urbanite sports curvy side panels and a wide front end with triangular side-view mirrors. The homegrown brand has not dropped any official information on the specifications but it is expected to surface in the coming months. Once launched, the Bajaj Urbanite will be up against the likes of Ather Energy 450 and Okinawa's Praise & Rideg+. For the update, Ather 450 and both the scooters of Okinawa have received FAME II approval.
