BMW India has officially announced that second-generation X6 would be launched on July 23, 2015 in the country. The new BMW X6 had its world premiere at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show and comes with several updates both visual as well as mechanical. Just so you know, the BMW X6, being the company's flagship SUV product, was firstly launched in India in 2009 and it is company's fourth 'X' product in the country after the X1, X3 and X5 SUVs.
The new BMW X6 carries forward its predecessor's 50:50 weight distribution philosophy on the front and rear axles, while being 40 kgs. lighter due to extensive use of high-strength steels, thermoplastics and aluminium in its chassis. In addition, the centre console is made up of Magnesium to make it loose more weight. It is being learnt that BMW India would be launching the xDrive40d variant of the X6 SUV in the country. As for interior, the new-generation BMW X6 shares most of its elements with the new X5. The dashboard is heavily restyled with contoured seats. It would be sold as completely bulit unit (CBU) with price around Rs. 1 Crore. The German luxury automaker would also launch the high-performance M variant of the X6 SUV in India, albeit not now but by the end of 2015.
Mechanically, the 2015 BMW X6 would be powered by a 3.0L, 6-cylinder in-line diesel engine, which churns out a maximum power of 313bhp and peak torque of 630Nm. It would be linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. The BMW X6 xDrive40d would accelerate to 100kmph from standstill in a mere 5.8 seconds, while clocking an electronically limited top speed of 240kmph. Under EU tests, the BMW X6 delivered an impressive mileage of 15.87kmpl. As we mentioned earlier about BMW's plans to launch X6M, lets talk about its magnanimous 4.4L, V8 TwinPower Turbo diesel powerplant. This mill generates a maximum power of 575bhp and peak torque of 750Nm. While the standard BMW X6 would rival the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class coupe, the X6M would be up against the mighty Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG.
