Citroen seems ready to proactively make its way into the Indian car market. Even as the news is confirmed with regard to the launch of the French car manufacturer’s first SUV in 2020 and a compact SUV later, the latest that has been doing the rounds is Citroen’s third product for the Indian market by 2022.
For India, the Citroen model lineup will see the 2020 C5 Aircross SUV launch, followed by an all-new 2021 Citroen compact SUV and for 2022 Citroen is planning to put forward a midsize SUV that can compete against the likes of the segment leader HyundaiCreta.
The new 2022 Citroen midsize SUV is inspired from the global Citroen C4 Cactus model, however, matching up to other Citroen India range of cars, besides boasting quirky design language and style, it shall too, be made with high localization, ideally suited for the Indian market.
The 2022 Citroen midsize SUV is expected to be powered by retuned powertrains borrowed from the Citroen compact SUV, which will be tweaked for higher efficiency and refinement. These Citroen engines could be a 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor.
It is highly likely that it may receive hybridization as well, which is necessary to adhere and comply with Real Driving Emissions (RDE) test that takes effect from 2023 onwards.
The new Citroen SUV model is also expected to be pitted against the Kia SP2i or Kia Seltos and the much anticipated new Tata Blackbird SUV, apart from the Hyundai Creta.
