After successfully executing the EcoSport saga by displaying the concept at the 2012 Auto Expo and launching the vehicle in 2013, Ford now seems set to repeat the success story with the Figo sedan. Shown in concept form at the 2014 Auto Expo, the Figo sedan previewed Ford’s contender for the booming sub 4-meter sedan segment. However, a longer version of the Figo sedan concept was shown in Brazil the very next day as the Ka+.
The production-spec version of the Ka+ seems to be ready for launch now as Ford Brazil has released teasers of the Ka-based sedan. The images were released soon after Ford unveiled the new Ka hatchback. As the images showcase, the Ka+ will don the same fascia as the Ka hatch. The headlamps retain the shape previewed on the concept but are a watered-down version that lose out on the LED garnish. Even the taillights retain their shape and styling, albeit with regular filament bulbs instead of LED light-guides.
The basic shapes and theme of the interiors were previewed on the concept, but the production trim looks significantly better than what we expected. The EcoSport and Fiesta inspired cell-phone themed centre console finds its way inside the Figo sedan too. We expect to see the SYNC infotainment technology come to the new Figo and the Figo sedan and as the teaser images reveal, the infotainment system will have steering-mounted controls as well.
The Figo sedan based on the Ka+ teased by Ford Brazil will come to India sooner rather than later and with its sub 4-meter form factor, it will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, the Honda Amaze and the soon to be launched Tata Zest. In all likelihood, the Figo sedan will also replace the Fiesta Classic.
