Mahindra & Mahindra is working on the next-gen models of its various products like Thar, Scorpio, and XUV500. All of these new-gen SUVs will be launched next year in a phased wise manner in the Indian market.
Recently, the all-new Mahindra XUV500 was spotted testing again by the folks at Rushlane. Reports have indicated that the new iteration of the company's flagship SUV will be launched by late 2020.
Mahindra XUV500 was firstly launched in India in 2011 and since then it hasn't received any major facelift. The new-gen model which has been spotted as test mules is the same vehicle which was earlier mistaken as all-new XUV400 due to being smaller in dimensions.
The spy-shots suggest that it will boast of an all-new styling which will be a radical departure from the ongoing model. There will be LED headlamps and LED tail lamp clusters as standard.
The present 'cheetah claw' door handles will be replaced by the more contemporary flush door handles. However, it is still not known whether these new handles will feature a similar ower-operated pop-out function or a more conventional lever-type arrangement will be in place.
The front end is going to boast of a more upright nose, a broader grille and vertical daytime running lamps (DRLs) - borrowed from the XUV300.
The next-gen model will be based on the same monocoque architecture as the current model, albeit with an all-new platform. The same platform will also be used by the Mahindra-Ford joint venture's first vehicle - a C-segment SUV.
Mechanically, the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will be powered by a new BS 6 certified 2.0L diesel engine which will develop top power of 178bhp. The engine will be offered with both manual as well as auto transmissions, alongside a 4x4 drive option.
