Audi India has confirmed the launch of 2016 A4 sedan on September 8, 2016 in the country. Being unveiled last year internationally, the fifth-generation Audi A4 had its first public appearance in India at the 2016 Auto Expo in February. Initially, the 2016 Audi A4 would only be available with a petrol engine. The diesel variants are expected to be introduced at a later stage. Also, Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system won't be on offer with the India-spec A4 sedan.
Speaking of the 2016 Audi A4, it is 25 mm longer and 16 mm wider than the ongoing model in India. The wheelbase has also grown by 12mm, while the sedan is lighter by upto 120 kgs. The increase in wheelbase has improved the interior length and rear legroom by 17 mm and 23 mm respectively. Underpinning the second generation MLB (MLB Evo) architecture, the new A4 sedan has shoulder width and head clearance for driver and front-seat passenger increased by 11 mm and 24 mm respectively. The India-spec Audi A4 would be launched in a single variant: 30 TFSI. It is the entry-level trim of the A4 globally and comes with a 1.4L TFSI petrol engine, which develops 147bhp of top power and 250Nm of peak torque. This 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine also does duties to the Skoda Octavia. It would be offered with a 7-speed S tronic automatic transmission.
Globally, the 2016 Audi A4 is available with a wide range of TFSI petrol and TDI diesel engines. These engines range from 1.4L to 3.0L, while offered with three transmission options: 6-speed manual gearbox, 7-speed S tronic automatic transmission and 8-speed tiptronic automatic transmission. Audi A4 would be challenging the likes of Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3-Series, and Jaguar XE. It is expected to be priced in excess of Rs. 38 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). Identical to the current model, the new-generation model would also be assembled locally at Audi's production facility in Aurangabad.
