Korean automaker Hyundai is all set to launch the new Santa Fe SUV on 6th February at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Developed on an all-new platform, the new generation Santa Fe will be 40mm longer and 5mm wider than the outgoing version. However, the 2700mm wheelbase remains unchanged and the roofline is now 45mm lower than earlier.
The new generation Santa Fe will continue to derive its power from the 2.2-litre VGT (Variable-geometry turbo) diesel mill that is also found under the existing model. However, the engine will be tuned slightly for lower emissions and improved fuel efficiency. The power and torque output will remain unchanged. The new generation Santa Fe will have an option of six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission gearbox, with four-wheel drive system as standard.
The reason behind not-so-impressive sales performance of the Santa Fe had been its high cost, as it was brought through CBU (Completely Buily Unit) route. But this time, the Santa Fe will be brought through completely knocked down (CKD) kits, and then assembled at Hyundai's Chennai plant, which will help the company price it very competitive.
Hyundai is known for offering so many features with its cars, and if the price is kept spot-on, the new generation Santa Fe can really be a threat for the segment leader Toyota Fortuner.
