Maruti Suzuki, as learnt through sources, would introduce the new-generation Swift hatch and DZire compact sedan by the end of 2017 in the country. Being codenamed as YSD, both the new-gen cars would have much lighter underpinning and would be manufactured at company's yet-to-be-inaugurated Gujrat plant. In addition, both the hatchback and sedan duo are expected to come loaded with Suzuki's newly-developed 1.5L diesel motor (codenamed E15A) with greater fuel efficiency.
The country's largest automaker intends to retail around 4.5 Lakh units of the new-gen Swift and Swift DZire anually in India. Just so you know, 4.5 Lakh per annum accounts to 18,750 units per month for each products. And, this target set by the Japanese automaker seems to be easily achievable as the current monthly sales for Swift & DZire are 19,936 and 17,559 units, respectively. Also, it is being believed that, besides the 1.5L diesel motor, the Fiat-sourced 1.3L mill would continued to be offered with the new-generation Swift and Swift DZire, albeit with SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle from Suzuki) technology. As one knows, the Ciaz is already sold with SHVS technology in diesel fuel trim.
Coming to the petrol powertrain options, reports suggest that the newly-developed 1.0L turbocharged Boosterjet engine could be offered with the Swift duo. For those asking, Suzuki's new 1.0L turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine would make its debut with the new Baleno (YRA) hatchback in India. The same reports further adds that Maruti Suzuki would also use the new 1.5L diesel engine in the new-generation Ertiga MPV, while it aims to sell around 80,000 units anually in the country. Being codenamed as YHA, the new-gen MPV is expected to be launched in 2018 in India.
