Hyundai could bring the Santro back in India this year. The South Korean auto manufacturer has been long cherishing the plan to launch new generation Santro in the country and it seems that the new version of the extremely popular hatchback is all-set to launch here in August this year. Internally codenamed as AH2, the new generation Hyundai Santro will come bearing a fresh styling in line with the automaker’s current design language and it will challenge rivals like Renault Kwid and Maruti Suzuki Celerio.
Hyundai discontinued the Santro back in 2014 to focus on the Grand i10, but the small hatchback has been so popular in India, that customers still enquire about it. Inspired by such a huge demand, Hyundai is preparing to bring back the car, but in a completely modern and stylish avatar.
The car has been spotted testing couple of times in India as well as in other countries also. Upon launch, this hatchback will be positioned between the Hyundai Eon and Grand i10. It will replace the i10 in the Hyundai India portfolio. The hatchback is expected to come priced at around Rs. 3 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and it will surely boost the sales performance of the brand in India giving a stronger and bigger market share to the automaker.
The new Santro is expected to come powered by a 1.0-litre efficienct petrol engine that will kick out power output of 70 bhp and 100 Nm of peak torque. It is expected to carry a 5-speed gearbox for the transmission duty, while an AMT would be there following Hyundai’s strategy to introduce dual-pedal technology across the entire lineup by the end of this decade. We hope to learn more details about the car in coming days.
