Hyundai has finally launched its most awaited product, the new Santro hatchback in the country at Rs 3.89 lakh for the D-Lite varaiant MT, the AMT version starts with Magna trim at Rs 5.18 lakh and petrol-CNG variants starts from Rs 5.23 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, India). The new model of the hatchback will be offered in a total of 7 exterior paint colours with two new colours - imperial beige and diana green. Hyundai is also offering two interior colours on the new model – premium beige with champagne gold inserts and all black interior with diana green coloured inserts as per the exterior colours.
Up front, the new Hyundai Santro wears swept back headlamps extending towards the front fender, Hyundai’s signature cascading grille that gives it a bolder look and chrome surrounds, while the plastic around the grille is further stretched to place fog lamps. Based on the new K1 platform, the new Santro dons the tall boy stance and will translate in to goof head and knee room. Dimensionally, the new car measures 3,610mm in overall length, 1,645mm wide, and sits 1,560mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,400mm. The new Santro will ride on a 14 inch steel rims, though, the top-end variant will get full wheel covers.
It’s not just the exterior, Hyundai has reserved many goodies on the inside as well, such as a segment-first 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and voice recognition and MirrorLink along connectivity, reverse parking camera, instrument cluster with MID, rear AC vents, all four power windows, keyless entry, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear defogger, rear wiper and washer that will be offered on the higher trims.
Mechanically, the new Hyundai Santro will come packed with a 1.1-litre 4-Cylinder petrol engine that makes 67bhp of maximum power with 99Nm of peak torque. The petrol variant will come mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an in-house developed Smart Auto AMT. The petrol-CNG unit develops 58bhp with 84Nm. The petrol manual and AMT variants return an ARAI fuel efficiency of 20.3kmpl, whereas the petrol-CNG will return 30.48km/kg.
In terms of safety, the 2018 Hyundai Santro will come with ABS with EBD, dual front airbags with standard driver’s side airbag, impact and speed sensing auto door unlock, rear parking sensors and seat belt pretensioner.
