Maruti Suzuki has launched the new-generation Ertiga MPV in petrol and diesel engine variants. The new MPV is available in 4 trim levels and in total of 10 variants, priced between Rs 7.44 lakh and Rs 10.90 lakh. The company hasn't launched the petrol-CNG variant of the MPV. However, Maruti will launch the new Ertiga CNG variant in the Indian market in the next 6 months.
A latest media report claims that Maruti Suzuki is in the process of fine-tuning the all-new 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with CNG. Adding to it, the petrol CNG model could also receive the dual-battery Smart Hybrid technology. The previous model with CNG option was popular among fleet owners and private buyers. In fact, the demand for the CNG-kitted Ertiga has increased recently. It was speculated that the CNG option is not likely to be offered in the new-generation model.
The new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with SHVS mild-hybrid tech. This engine is capable of producing 104bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 138Nm of torque at 4,400rpm. The new model offers 13% more power and 6% more torque than the previous 1.4-litre K14B petrol engine. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic unit.
The diesel version gets the same 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine, which also features the SHVS mild-hybrid technology. This engine produces 89bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. In terms of proportions, the new model is 99mm longer, 40mm wider and 5mm taller than the previous model. It measures 4,395mm in length, 1,735mm in width and 1,690mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,740mm. Due to SHVS mild-hybrid system, the petrol version of the new Ertiga records a significant rise in fuel economy. The new model returns an ARAI certified fuel economy of 19.34kmpl in petrol manual and 18.69kmpl in petrol automatic. The diesel version offers an impressive 25.47kmpl.
