Maruti Suzuki will launch the much-awaited new-generation Wagon R hatchback in the Indian market on January 23, 2019. Ahead of the launch, the Maruti Suzuki dealers have started taking pre-orders for the hatchback. Interested buyers can pre-book the model at authorized Maruti dealerships or via online on the company's website by paying an initial token amount of Rs 11,000. The tall-boy hatchback will directly rival the likes of new Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and others in its category.
The all-new Maruti Wagon R is based on the thoroughly modified version of the existing platform. The platform has been updated for better structural integrity and will meet the upcoming crash test norms. The hatchback also packs in several new features and offers better comfort and convenience features than the previous model. Adding to it, the new Wagon R grows in size thus offering more space for the rear occupants.
Launched in 1999, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is one of the best-selling models for the Indo-Japanese brand in India. The hatchback is quite popular among first time buyers, thanks to its practical and spacious cabin. It was speculated that the new model could use the new-gen Heartect platform, which also underpins the Swift twins. The new model is 143mm wider than the current model, which ensures more space for 3 occupants in the rear. The hatchback retains the tallboy stance and features an all-new design. It looks completely different from the previous model, featuring new front with a bolder grille, new headlamps and vertically stacked tail-lights.
The new Maruti Suzuki WagonR's cabin is now equipped with more features and looks way modern than the predecessor. In fact, the top-spec model is now equipped with Suzuki's SmartPlay infotainment system that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In fact, the SmartPlay studio will allow users to surf news, get latest updates on weather and locate eateries around. The new model is equipped with driver side airbag, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminder, speed alert system and rear parking sensors as standard. In fact, dual front airbags will be offered as optional for base model.
The new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will be powered by a tried & tested 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine that produces 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. Both manual and AMT gearbox options will be on offer. The vehicle will also get a new ZXi variant, which will receive the more powerful 1.2-litre petrol engine that currently powers the Swift twins. This engine churns out 82bhp of maximum power and 115Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.
