The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is all set to go on sale in India on January 23, 2019. The new model has already been spotted several times. In fact, Maruti Suzuki has started dispatching the new model to dealerships. The new model will rival the likes of Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and Datsun GO.
The new model will receive comprehensive updates in the form of styling, interior and engine. The new tall-boy hatchback has received a new more powerful engine. Adding to it, the hatchback gets more features inside the cabin and is equipped with new safety pack. Ahead of the launch, variant-wise features and details of the new WagonR have been leaked on the internet. The new model will come in 3 trim levels - LXi, VXi and ZXi - and in total of 7 variants.
The Maruti Wagon R 2019 LXi variant gets 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine producing 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque, which is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This variant gets driver side airbag (Dual airbags as optional), ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminder, speed alert system, door-open warning, manual AC, 12V charging socket, central locking, front power windows, etc. This model rides on 13-inch steel wheels wrapped with 155/80 R13 tyres.
The mid-level variant VXi is available in two engine options - 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. Along with features available in base variant, the new WagonR gets speed-sensitive door locks, body-coloured ORVMs and door handles, blacked-out B-pillar in 1.2L version, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, tilt adjustable steering, keyless entry, power windows, day/night inside rear view mirrors, 60:40 split folding rear seats, Audio system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and multi-functional steering in 1.2L model.
The top-spec ZXi variant is equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 83bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. It is also available in manual and AMT options. It gets dual front airbags, seat belt pretensioners and load limiters, front fog lamps, rear defogger, washer and wiper, power folding and adjustable ORVMs with integrated blinkers and tachometer. This variant also gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Dimensionally, the 2019 Maruti WagonR is 3,665mm in length, 1,620mm in width and 1,675mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,435mm. The hatchback comes fitted with a 32-litre fuel tank. For suspension mechanism, the hatchback gets Mac Pherson Strut with Coil Spring at the front and Torsion Beam with Coil Spring at the rear.
The new gen Maruti Wagon R will be offered in 6 exterior colour options - Silky Silver, Superior White, Autumn Orange, Magma Grey, Nutmeg Brown and Poolside Blue. In terms of styling, the hatchback gets rectangular grille with a chrome strip, large sweptback headlamps, dual-tone bumper with 3-slat air dam with fog lamp pods on either side and vertically stacked tail-lamps.
