Mini India, the BMW owned brand, has confirmed that the new Mini would arrive in India next year via releasing a teaser image on its official Facebook page. The 2014 New Mini would be replacing the Cooper in the country, upon its arrival. The company, in a bid to generate hype for the upcoming Mini, is running a contest on social media, and the winner gets the pleasure of driving the new car.
The new Mini Cooper would come loaded with 1.5L, 3-pot motors. In Europe, it is also offered with same engine configuration in both the petrol and diesel guise, albeit the Cooper S and SD trims are powered by 2.0L 4-cylinder petrol and diesel motors. Moreover, there also comes Mini One with downgraded 1.2L, 3-cylinder mill with better fuel efficiency in Europe; but, it wouldn't arrive in India as it would not fit into the premium framework of the brand. The new Mini is expected to be launched around March, 2015 in India.
2014 Mini Cooper would arrive in India via CBU (Completely Built up Unit) route as it is manufactured at the Oxford plant in the U.K. It is the first model of the Mini series to use the front wheel drive UKL architecture and break the general stereotype. The company claims that it is larger than the ongoing version of the car as it measures 3,821 mm in length, 1,727 mm in width and 1,415 mm in height. It hasn't got any direct competition in the country, but indirectly it is being challenged by the Mercedes Benz A Class. The New 3-door Mini Cooper would come with a sticker price of around Rs. 28-30 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
