Renault has revealed the new Koleos SUV ahead of its public premiere at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition on April 25, 2016. The new D-segment SUV is one of the 10 products that the French automaker has unveiled this year. The company has retained the 'Koleos' moniker, irrespective of the numerous reports that claimed that it would be christened as 'Maxthon'. New Renault Koleos gets fresh exterior design and more details regarding the SUV would be announced on April 25.
"The new KOLEOS boasts a powerful stance that sets it apart from its D-segment SUV rivals and provides a refined, comfortable interior that boasts record room for passengers. The new KOLEOS also delivers all-terrain ability while ensuring excellent ride and handling and stability. The new KOLEOS is designed and engineered with global appeal to play a part in boosting Renault’s international growth, including China where Renault opened a plant in Wuhan earlier this year," said the company in an official statement. Predominantly, the new Koleos is Renault's version of Nissan X-Trail. However, retaining the 'Renault' moniker comes as a huge surprise because the SUV was underperforming and automakers always tend to change the name of the new-generation model to give it a fresh start.
2016 Renault Koleos won't be a 7-seater like its sibling X-Trail as it would be deprived of the third row seating. It is expected to go on sale in the second half of 2016 in China. Later on, the company is expected to launch the new Koleos in Australia, Europe, and Asia. The Koleos is Renault's flagship product in India and retailed as CBU, but it has failed to impress the buyers due to its higher pricing and unavailability of petrol variants. Also, the Supreme Court's ban on diesel vehicles with engine capacity of 2000cc or above in Delhi has further rubbed salts to its wounds. The India launch of 2016 Renault Koleos might happen by early 2017, albeit with a petrol motor as well.
