- Tata Harrier will get an automatic gearbox sourced from Hyundai
- 6-speed torque converter will also have manual mode
- Engine will get more power to keep performance similar to manual
- New Harrier gets BS6-compliant engine from launch itself
- Sunroof will be standard for the automatic variant
The Tata Harrier has long been due for an automatic gearbox, and it looks like it will finally get the option at the 2020 New Delhi Auto Expo. Coupled with the upgrade to a BS6 engine in the Harrier and added features, the Harrier should have a price increase of approximately Rs 1.5 lakh over the current one.
The automatic gearbox that the Harrier will get is a 6-speed torque converter that will be sourced from Hyundai. It will get a manual mode as well. The engine is expected to get a bump in power, from 140 bhp to 170 bhp, both to keep performance on par with the manual gearbox, and also as part of the upgrade to a BS6-compliant engine. The drive modes will be retained. Along with the upgrades to the driveline, the Harrier automatic is also expected to get a panoramic sunroof as a standard feature. This full-fat variant of the Harrier will likely be dubbed the XZ+ variant, and will sit above the current range topper, the XZ dual tone variant. The Harrier automatic will also get larger 18-inch wheels and a tyre pressure monitoring system, in all probability.
The Tata Harrier currently retails at approximately Rs 13.5 lakh onward, and tops out at approximately Rs 17.3 lakh, ex showroom. With the engine upgrade, all the variants are expected to get dearer by Rs 1 lakh, while the automatic variants will be priced at a premium of Rs 1.5 lakh over the equivalent manual variants.
