After launching the all-new Tata Altroz today with great fanfare, Tata Motors has launched the Nexon facelift at a starting price of Rs 6.95 lakhs for its petrol variant. The new Nexon 2020 diesel variant is available at Rs 8.45 lakhs.
The updated vehicle costs more than the existing versions by Rs 22,000 and Rs 56,000 respectively for the petrol and diesel engine options.
One of the noticeable changes to the existing version is the adherence to pedestrian safety norms that come into effect later in the year. Tata places great emphasis on the safety aspect. The Nexon has a reputation to maintain, as it was the first model to receive the 5-start rating from Global NCAP. The Tata Altroz has also passed the test with flying colours.
The 2020 Nexon exteriors get cosmetic alterations in the form of blue highlights. The new Nexon interiors come with a few updates, as well. The notable addition is the fully digitised unit borrowed from the Tata Tiago.
The Tata Nexon EV has a partially digitised unit. Other changes that catch the eye are the use of light colours and a flat-bottom steering wheel.
As expected, the engines get an update to comply with BS6-emission norms. Both the 1.2L petrol and 1.5L diesel motors get BS6-compliant upgrades. The output of both these engines remains the same as it was with the existing BS4 version. The petrol engine delivers a power output of 110hp and torque of 170Nm, whereas the diesel motor clocks 110hp/260Nm respectively. There is no change to the transmission system, as both the engines are mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or AMT unit.
The vehicle comes in the usual five variants, the XE, XM, XZ, XZ+, and XZ+(O). The automatic transmission option is available with the XM, XZ+ and the XZ+(O) versions of the vehicle.
From the safety point of view, the entry-level Tata Nexon facelift XE gets dual airbags, rear parking sensors, and ABS. Other exciting features include manual AC, projector headlamps, and power windows for the front seats. The higher-end variants come with additional features like auto climate control, rear AC vents, keyless entry, 7-inch touchscreen info system, LED DRLs, auto wipers, cruise control, integrated turn indicators, and a powered sunroof.
On the competition front, the Tata Nexon facelift is an admirable foil to the Ford EcoSport. Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, and the new Maruti Vitara Brezza Facelift (reportedly launching very soon).
