Japanese automotive major Toyota is all set to its all new SUV Fortuner in India today. The Toyota Fortuner 2016 made its world debut in Thailand recently. Customers can already book the all new Fortuner, with a token money of INR 2.0-lakhs. The SUV will carry completely new design language and mechanical upgrades, which will help the SUV to compete against its rivals like Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The all new Fortuner is based on the company’s new highly modular Toyota New Generation Architecture (TNGA) platform. This platform has helped the SUV to be more lightweight and stiff, which eventually helps in better ride quality, fuel efficiency and better handling.
The company has updated the Fortuner in terms of design and looks. The all new Fortuner is now meaner and sleeker. It gets thin, wraparound, double projector headlamps that stream into a recently planned twin-support chrome grille. The newly designed front bumper includes chrome accented fog lamps and DRL housing that holds fog lamps and LED DRLs. At the rear, the SUV gets an all electric tailgate and LED tail-lamps.
The SUV has also been updated when it comes to the interior. The cabin now gets generous usage of soft-touch materials and leather seats. According to the Japanese company, the SUV has got more space inside than before. It additionally receives a large touchscreen infotainment system display which is housed in the center of the dashboard, and the AC controls are located just under the infotainment system. The four spoke steering wheel holds telephony and audio controls.
Toyota hasn’t confirmed anything about the trims of the Fortuner, but it is likely to be launched in 6-trims - 4×2 Petrol MT, 4×2 Petrol AT, 4×2 Diesel MT, 4×2 Diesel AT, 4×4 Diesel MT, 4×4 Diesel AT. In this segment, the Fortuner is now one of the very few SUVs to get petrol motor as an option, which is likely to give it an edge over its rivals. The Diesel variant of the all new SUV will be powered by a 2.8L GD four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, while the petrol version will be equipped with a 2.7L dual VVT-i four-cylinder engine. Both the engines are already proven in the likes of the Innova Crysta.
