Volkswagen Vento with a new diesel mill and 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox will be launched on September 24, 2014 in India. Though, some cosmetic changes both inside and outside are also expected apart from the aforementioned mechanical change. The 1.5L diesel engine which would come with the new Vento has already been doing duties to the Polo hatchback.
Currently, the Vento sedan comes with a 1.6L diesel engine; the same engine which used to feature in the Polo's performance oriented TDI variant. Recently, Volkswagen India phased out this engine and introduced a stripped down version of the same in form of aforesaid 1.5L diesel engine. This new engine has the capability of churning out 105bhp of top power and 250Nm of peak torque. It would be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Thus, Vento would be the second vehicle in its segment to have a diesel automatic variant after the Hyundai Verna Fluidic.
Talking about the cosmetic changes, they would be quite subtle but substantial. The new Vento would have redesigned front and rear bumpers. The headlamps would also be tweaked along with an all new set of alloys. The interior cabin would also be refurbished to raise the overall ambiance of the sedan. On the other hand, the petrol variants would continue to carry the 1.2L TSI and 1.6L MPI engines which are coupled with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and 5-speed manual gearbox, respectively.
