After a long stint of the Corolla sedan in the Indian market, Toyota has stepped efforts to upgrade it and is now ready with the next generation Corolla to be revealed on 16th November 2018. However, in the latest turn of events, to generate maximum curiosity and interest, Toyota has yet again dropped a teaser of the all-new 2020 Corolla. It shows one side of the sedan’s face with the headlamp lit and a honeycomb mesh grille.
With the sedan’s global debut it will unite with the hatchback and wagon variants. The Toyota Corolla will boast a 1.8 litre to 2-litre petrol motor most likely. The 1.5-litre diesel unit might remain the same as in the model presently sold in India. It could also get a CVT automatic and manual transmission for the petrol variant and only a manual transmission for the diesel version.
Except for a unique front bumper and the Toyota symbol that has gone up to the bonnet, the new-gen 2020 Corolla sedan has borrowed style inspiration along with the engine and transmission from Toyota’s 2019 hatchback and wagon. Other design elements are the headlights, LED daytime running lights and large honeycomb mesh grille similar to the hatchback.
Moreover, the new 2020 Corolla will share internal features with the hatchback, however, it’s going to be even roomier than the current model. It’ll also share a more rigid TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform with a lower centre of gravity compared to the previous model.
Though not clear how many of the features will match the India-spec Corolla, however, the new Corolla will be equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 which boasts of autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, cruise control, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist.
The new Toyota Corolla will be pitted against the upcoming new Honda Civic and the upgraded Hyundai Elantra.
