With the introduction of the A4 (B9) last month, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that reports are starting to emerge regarding future versions of the model set to join the range in the following period. One of these new derivatives will be the warm S4 version in sedan and wagon flavors likely hitting dealerships sometime in 2016. It is believed the model will continue to use the familiar TFSI 3.0-liter six-cylinder supercharged engine, but it will be a tweaked version expected to churn an additional 17 bhp for a grand total of 350 bhp.
The report does not specify any torque numbers, but it’s safe to say it will be slightly higher compared to the 440 Nm offered by the previous S4 (B8). We do know for sure the model will continue to use Audi’s reputable quattro AWD system which will receive the engine’s power through a dual-clutch seven-speed S tronic gearbox. It remains a mystery whether there’s going to be a six-speed manual transmission as Audi isn’t sure people would buy one, so they could decide to stick exclusively with the S tronic.
Those who won’t be satisfied with the amount of power offered by the S4 will have to wait a little bit more for the range-topping RS4 which according to Quattro GmbH chief Heinz Hollerweger will be launched sooner than the usual. It will lose the naturally aspirated V8 4.2-liter engine as Audi’s engineers will install a smaller 6-cylinder turbocharged unit producing in excess of 420 bhp.
The RS4 will once again take the shape of an Avant and will be shortly followed by the RS5 Coupe and Convertible while an RS5 Sportback is also in the works. It’s unknown at this point which of these new RS4 & RS5 models will make their way into Indian dealerships.
