Ford India, with all guns blazing, has imported the Ka (New Figo) and Ka+ sedan (Figo based Sedan) from Brazil for R&D purposes. As known, the American automajor would launch the Figo based sedan and next generation Figo in India in 2015. The Ka+ sedan would be having a sub 4-m length in India as in Brazil, it's length exceeds the 4-m mark.
The company has imported the Ka+ sedan with the same 1.5L, 4-cyl Ti-VCT petrol motor, which does duties to the petrol variants of the EcoSport compact SUV. But, if Ford intends to get benefited in the excise duty in India, then, apparently, it would replace it by a smaller and non-turbo version of the 1.0L EcoBoost engine. The Figo based sedan would also come in diesel avatar in India with the 1.5 liter-4 cylinder TDCI turbo diesel mill. This sedan is underpinning the highly versatile European Fiesta platform which is modified to accommodate it. The current generation Figo and Classic sedan are also based on the same platform only. The 2015 Figo based sedan is slated to replace the Classic sedan in our country.
The Ka sedan would mark Ford India's entry into the highly sought after compact sedan segment which has grown exponentially over the last couple of years with as many as three new cars making their way in it in form of Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Tata Zest. Ford India would locally manufacture both the 2105 Figo hatchback and Figo based sedan at its Sanand plant in Gujarat. Volkswagen India is also eyeing the compact sedan segment as it has plans to launch a Polo/Vento PQ25 platform based compact sedan in the country next year.
