The luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz is set to introduce the next generation CLA, which is expected to be unveiled sometime in 2019. It will be the second generation of the car and is likely to get major updates over the existing model.
The all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA will be underpinned on the same platform that underpins the upcoming A-Class hatchback and sedan from the manufacturer. It is built on the company’s New Generation Compact Cars (NGCC) design philosophy, which will see it grow in size.
The next-gen CLA is expected to look sleeker from the outset with slimmer headlights and angular tail lights. It is likely to get a sporty appearance along with a good handling system to attract a majority of the buyers. Mercedes-Benz may also bring in Shooting Brake or the estate variant of the model at a later period.
The interior of the new Mercedes-Benz CLA is expected to get a refreshed designing along with several add-ons over the existing model. It will get a new touchscreen infotainment system, which is in line with the company’s sixth-generation Command system. A new fully-digital instrument console will also be present on the dashboard. The interior has grown in size to offer a spacious room for all the occupants.
Mechanically, the new CLA will be driven by the same engine trims comprising of a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and a diesel engine. The maximum power produced by the engines range between 122 bhp to 233 bhp, while the top-end trim, AMG CLA 45 is expected to deliver more than 405 bhp. However, it is also expected to be offered with a hybrid powertrain, using a 48-volt electric system.
India currently retails the Mercedes-Benz CLA in both petrol and diesel versions, alongside the range-topping AMG CLA 45. Moreover, the company is expected to introduce its first A-Class sedan globally towards the end of 2018.
