Volkswagen India is planning to launch the next-gen Passat in the month of January. The new Passat has been spotted on the on the Indian streets earlier doing some test rounds without wearing any camouflage. Passat in eighth generation was showcased at the Auto Expo held at the Greater Noida at the start of the year.
And since its launch, the car never received any makeover till now and poor sales can be a perfect reason for this. Based on MQB platform, the new Passat is not only marginally smaller than its predecessor, but Volkswagen also claims that the car will be spacious too from the inside. Being a comfortable luxury sedan, it is well equipped with features too.
In the international market, Volkswagen Passat is offered in both petrol and diesel engine, but the Indian market will witness a petrol variant. It will come packed with an 1.8-litre TSI petrol unit that will crank out a maximum power of 170 hp with a maximum torque of 249 Nm. The powertrain will come paired with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. The same unit that is found under the hood of the Skoda Octavia and Superb.
Alongside, the company is also planning to launch the plug-in hybrid version called the Passat GTE, but seems to make a launch at the later stages in the country. Initially, the GTE will be available in limited numbers so as to keep a check over the response of the model in the Indian market. Recently, Volkswagen also unveiled ALLSTAR Edition of the Polo hatchback.
