The production-ready model of the new generation VW Touareg has been spotted in an undisguised manner on its way to a TV commercial shoot. It is most likely to make its official debut at the 2018 Auto China Show in Beijing. However, the concept version of the next-gen Touareg has already been displayed as the VW T-Prime Concept GTE at the 2016 Auto China.
The testing mule of the all-new VW Touareg has already been spotted previously a month ago in China, but it was completely camouflaged. Now, with the clear images of the undisguised SUV available, one can clearly see the design.
The design of the all-new SUV is based on the MLB platform, which also underpins the Audi Q7. It also shares some of the design and styling elements with the VW Atlas. It looks a lot sharper, stylish and sportier from its predecessor. Up front, the car looks well sculpted with a front bumper and flaunts a new wider chrome slated grille along with the newly styled LED headlamps.
The 2018 VW Touareg will be the third generation of the SUV. The cabin of the car is expected to be influenced by the interior of the VW Arteon. It is expected to feature a 12.3-inch Active Info Display along with a 9.2-inch glass-covered Discovery Pro touchscreen infotainment system. The five-seater SUV seats may get the Nappa leather upholstery.
Mechanically, the car is most likely to be powered by both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol version will derive its power from a 2.0-litre TSI engine, while the diesel version gets a 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged unit. The engines are expected to be paired with an eight-speed DSG gearbox with AWD (All-Wheel Drive) system as optional across the variants.
The Touareg SUV was once the part of VW India’s portfolio, but right now no official word has been made on its possible arrival to India. For Volkswagen, the 5-seater Volkswagen Tiguan holds the potential in the country.
