Japanese automaker, Honda is currently gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited new-gen Civic sedan in India in March 2019. The new Civic will be the third all-new model from Honda in the last fiscal year. The company is also working on the next-generation City sedan and is also planning to introduce the global HR-V 5-seater SUV in India in 2019. The current City sedan was introduced in November 2013 and is already 5 years old. It was speculated that the next model will arrive in 2020, but new media report claims that the next-gen model could debut by the end of this year. The new model will first go on sale in Thailand, followed by other nations including India.

The new-generation Honda City sedan design and interior details are yet to be revealed. However, media reports claim that the design of the new model could be inspired with the new Honda Accord and Honda Insight. It is expected to grow in size and will be bigger and more spacious than the existing model. The new model will receive the company's signature design and will share visual changes in-line with the Honda Insight.

The all-new Honda City is most likely to be based on the upgraded version of the existing platform. The report claims that the Thai-spec model will be powered by a new 3-cylinder 1.0-litre turbocharged VTEC petrol engine. Featuring a 12-Valve DOHC head, this engine will feature both VTEC and dual VTEC variable valve systems. The engine will have 73.0mm x 78.7mm of bore and stroke respectively, and is likely to churns out a maximum torque of 200Nm. For transmission duties, the next City will receive a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic unit. This low-displacement petrol engine will be compatible with E85 petrol-ethanol blend.

The international-spec next Honda City will also be available with a hybrid powertrain. The hybrid variant will come with the i-MMD dual-motor powertrain that will be comprised of a 1.5-litre petrol engine and two electric motors. The India-spec model will also be available in hybrid form, but it will receive a mild-hybrid petrol engine. The full-hybrid setup is not likely to make way in India due to its high cost. It won't make sense for the price sensitive Indian market.

In India, the next-gen Honda City sedan will also receive the BSVI compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine along with the regular 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine. Both manual and automatic versions are likely to be on offer. The sedan is expected to be unveiled at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo, while launch could take place in the first quarter of 2020.
