A couple of years before, when Mahindra and Mahindra, the largest UV manufacturer from India bought a relatively unknown SUV manufacturer from Korea called Ssangyong, trade pundits were skeptical about the decision. Little did they know that Mahindra has a long term plan for this company. While the Ssangyong Rexton received much of appreciation in India, the company has given it a makeover and the 2015 Rexton has been revealed in Korea.
The changes are both cosmetic as well as some addition of features has been done. On the outside, the SUV gets new vertical grille, integrated with High definition projector headlamps and Daytime running lights. The badging has been changed too, and the alloys are sportier. The changes are reflected inside the cabin too, and you get a new steering wheel, heated seats, LED Cabin lights and refreshed central console.
Mechanically, the vehicle remains unchanged, powered by either a 2.0 litre diesel unit, a 2.7 litre diesel unit or a 3.2 litre petrol unit, mated with a 6-speed manual and 5-speed automatic gearbox options, and in AWD and part-time 4WD choices. The features on the Rexton includes ESP, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System), cruise control, smart key entry, rain-sensing wipers, and a Bluetooth-enabled audio system.
Rexton competes against Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, and Hyundai Santa Fe in India. While the update is only meant for Korea, its home turf for now, it still remains a question if Mahindra brings the update to Indian model this year. Ssangyong also revealed Tivoli, the new SUV from the company recently.
