The Swedish car manufacturer, Volvo has teased the next-gen V40 small hatch and the new XC40 small SUV, expected to be unveiled in their concept form, next week. Though, the company has not confirmed any details of the cars, except that they belong to the brand's small segment, i.e. the 40 series. Three images were teased on the company’s snapchat account with some interesting captions like “Not your daddy’s Volvo”, “Testing the future of Volvo” and it hints that the company is trying to attract younger buyers.
The next-generation V40 and the first XC40 will sit on the all-new CMA platform and the new platform is small and designed to be premium enough to develop more upmarket products. Looking at the images, it confirms that the concept will follow brand’s current design language with 'Thor's Hammer' LED DRLs and an front-end styling.
The next-gen Volvo V40 and XC40 will be powered by a three-cylinder and four-cylinder engines, while plug-in hybrid will also feature in the lineup and potentially fully electric versions of the cars also being developed. The XC40 is expected to launch first, most likely in 2017, as the current crossover market holds sales potential. It will compete with the likes of Mercedes GLA while the V40 hatchback rivals to the Mercedes A-Class.
