The next-generation Volkswagen Passat recently got spotted in China. This time, there was no camouflage present, so the entre design got seen. It is a completely new car from stem to stern and gets more elegant and classy looks to match its potential. In India, we expect to see the new Passat by the end of this year with a completely new powertrain.
The 2015 Passat is based on Volkswagen’s highly modular MQB platform that also does duty for several models under Volkswagen Group's sub-brands. Interestingly, the new DSG ‘box has 10 speeds, and it partners a new common-rail engine working over 3000 bar pressure. This new powertrain will be premiered on the new Passat, before it comes onto other vehicles in VW’s stable.
As seen in the images, the new Passat looks quite modern in terms of design. The car continues the heritage of Volkswagen's design language that boasts sober straight like character lines. The front is considerably revised with a new chrome-lined horizontally slatted grille, detailed head lamps equipped with LEDs and new wide air dams incorporated into the front bumper. The sides are subtly redone that looks more of like an Audi with only one character line going straight from the fender to the quarter panel. Rear is also similarly designed with new tail lamps and a sturdy looking boot lid that has only minor details while the registration plate stays at bumper level.
The new model year 2015 Passat will compete with the likes of Skoda Superb and Toyota Camry in the Indian market post its launch late this year.
