Driving on the cart of the newly launched compact offering Datsun Go, Nissan Motor India has reported an increase in sales at 7,019 units in March'14 compared to 2,125 units sold in the corresponding month last year. Datsun GO contributed 2,072 in the March sales within just 10 days of its national launch.
In the first quarter of 2014, company's sales grew by 3.4 percent, at 38,217, units as compared to 36,975 units in the previous year.
"After the excise duty cut was announced in the Budget, we immediately passed on the benefit to customers and dealers were also compensated. We started on the right note although nothing much was happening in the market in terms of consumer sentiments," Nissan Motor India vice president business management Ajay Raghuvanshi said.
The Datsun Go has also received good response from the market and there have been over 50,000 inquiries already across India, he added.
The October 2013 launched Nissan Terrano was the biggest contributor to sales, achieving 14,998 units of sales, while the whole Micra range, including Micra and the Active hatchbacks, sold 12,595 units during the first quarter of 2014.
