Nissan India would launch three all-new vehicles in the next three years in the country. The Japanese automaker would be launching the Datsun GO-Cross, new-generation X-Trail and Kicks Crossover in India in the next three years. Firstly, the X-Trail SUV is expected to be launched this year, while the Kicks and Datsun Go Cross would be offered in the Indian market before 2019. Just so you know, Nissan India recently launched the most affordable Datsun car - the redi-GO - in the country at Rs. 2.39 Lakhs.
Talking about the Datsun GO Cross, it is codenamed as EM2 and is expected to hit the Indian roads by 2018 end in a price range of Rs. 5-10 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). It would be positioned against the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. On the other hand, the Nissan Kicks SUV is internally codenamed PB1D and it would be challenging the likes of Hyundai Creta and Honda BR-V, while being introduced in a price bracket of Rs. 8-15 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). "Yes you are right," Guillaume Sicard, president of Nissan's India operations, said when asked about the company's SUV focus. "SUV know-how is strong at Nissan. This is what India wants. It is a logical direction obviously for us to look at."
Currently, Nissan has a market share of just 1.4% in India. The company had set a target of capturing 5 percent market share by 2017, but now it has been pushed to 2020. Sicard declined to comment on the company's immediate product launches. "Nissan brand is extremely important for India, you will see more and more global products. We have worked on the product plan, so we know where we are going, Nissan is going to be a more global brand and Datsun will be more for the mass and risers." For those asking, Datsun GO Cross (EM2) and Nissan Kicks (PB1D) would be unerpinning the CMF-A+ and CMF-B architectures, respectively. The Kicks would be the company's first product to be based on the Common Module Family platform, while production commences in May 2018.
