Nissan mulls buying stake in Defiance Technologies

Snapshot: The quantum of stake being explored ranges from 20 to 40 per cent.

Nissan India is reportedly, in talks with Hinduja Automotive in order to buy stake in its engineering and design arm, Defiance Technologies. It is understood that currently, negotiations are under way between the two firms and the modalities are begin worked out about the role and responsibilities of Defiance, once the deal is inked. The quantum of stake sales being explored ranges from 20 to 40 per cent.

Defiance Technologies has played a crucial role in the engineering of the Datsun Go hatchback. Over 100 engineers has been working on the Datsun project for over a couple of years. In fact, one of the key reasons behind the competitive sticker price of the Datsun Go is due to the engineering and development that was led by Defiance Technologies. 

The engineering arm of Hinduja Group continues to play a key part in the entry-level car codenamed i2 for Nissan and Dastus and they are also in talks with other car makers such as Volkswagen for their future models.
