To be honest, we weren’t expecting Nissan to apply the NISMO treatment on the Patrol taking into account this is a very heavy and large SUV that certainly wasn’t built to be driven fast. That being said, a higher performance Patrol is now available across the Middle East where the NISMO brand has officially been launched together with the 370Z NISMO and the mighty GT-R NISMO.
The vehicle has gained a sporty body kit with beefier front and rear bumpers, extended side skirts, LED lighting technology and a set of massive RAYS 22-inch forged alloy wheels. Moreover, the full-size off-roader also has a tuned suspension equipped with Bilstein shock absorbers while the steering system has also been revised.
As far as the engine is concerned, it’s still the same V8 5.6-liter from the regular Patrol but instead of the usual 400 bhp it now churns an additional 28 bhp although it’s unlikely this will make any difference taking into account the vehicle weighs more than 2,300 kg. Perhaps more important is the fact the torque is now available across more than 70% of the rev range, although Nissan isn’t saying how much torque the motor now generates compared to the stock configuration which is rated at 560 Nm.
It’s not known at this point whether Nissan has plans to sell the Patrol NISMO outside the Middle East. We remind you the regular Patrol is being considered for the Indian market along with the fully electric Leaf hatchback, but the Japanese automaker hasn’t made up its mind just yet regarding these two models. If the Patrol will indeed arrive in our country, it will likely cost upwards of Rs 1 Crores and will obviously be offered with a seven-seat arrangement and the same 400 bhp V8 engine which should be enough to make it a worthy adversary for Land Rover and other competitors in this segment.
